Ink coding: Ink is sprayed onto the surface of an object under pressure through a nozzle to form a mark.

Principle differences

Ink coding: Ink is sprayed onto the surface of an object under pressure through a nozzle to form a mark. There are two methods: continuous inkjet and on-demand inkjet. The former continuously sprays ink, and ink not used for coding is recycled; The latter only sprays ink when needed.

Laser coding: Using a high-energy density laser beam to irradiate the surface of an object, causing vaporization, carbonization, or color change on the material surface, resulting in permanent markings. It is a non-contact processing method.

Different identification effects

Ink coding: Rich in color, capable of identifying multiple colors such as black, white, red, etc. However, the clarity and firmness are slightly poor, and the identification may become blurry and discolored on rough surfaces, after friction, or in humid environments.

Laser coding: The marking is usually monochrome, which is the effect presented by the color change of the material surface after the laser is applied. High clarity, sharp edges, able to present fine patterns and text, with permanent markings.

Different applicable materials

Ink coding: Suitable for various materials, including paper, plastic, glass, metal, etc., but different types of ink may need to be selected for different materials to ensure good adhesion.

Laser coding: It has a certain selectivity for materials and is suitable for most materials such as metals, plastics, ceramics, etc. However, for some high reflectivity or high transparency materials, it may be necessary to adjust the laser parameters to achieve good results.

Comparison of speed and efficiency

Ink coding: The coding speed is relatively slow, especially when high-quality and high-resolution coding is required. Moreover, ink requires a certain amount of drying time, which may affect production efficiency.

Laser coding: With fast coding speed, the marking task can be completed in a short period of time without the need for drying time. After the marking is completed, subsequent processing or packaging can be carried out, improving production efficiency.

Cost considerations

Ink coding: The equipment cost is relatively low, but it requires the purchase of ink and other consumables. Over long-term use, the cost of consumables is relatively high. Moreover, the storage and replacement of ink require certain operations and maintenance.

Laser coding: The initial investment cost of the equipment is relatively high, but no consumables are required during operation (except for basic energy such as electricity). In the long run, the overall cost may be relatively low. And the service life of laser coding equipment is relatively long, and maintenance is relatively simple.
